Path: Manage Federated Configuration

Manage Federated Configuration lets you configure two elements of your library’s federated search configuration: federated search sources and Z39.50 sets. A federated search sources is a host or data provider outside of the library system, such as an external server or a subscription-based data provider. For each federated source, you can specify individual federated search targets. Search targets can point to specific sources within the host or data provider, such as individual databases on an external server.

A Z39.50 set is a group of qualifiers that can be used with one or more Z39.50 federated search sources. Each qualifier specifies a value for the completeness, position, relation, structure, truncation, and use parameters that are part of the Bib-1 standard. (For more information about qualifiers, see Managing Z39.50 Sets .) When you add a target for a Z39.50 federated search source, you must specify a Z39.50 set and a qualifier that exists within that Z39.50 set.

Manage Federated Search Sources

Lets you manage any federated search sources. A federated search source is a third-party server or service that provides documents or information that can be searched. SirsiDynix Enterprise supports Z39.50, 360 Search, and Muse (Single Search) federated search sources. For each search source, you can define individual search targets. You can then assign each search target to an individual search profile or room. (For more information, see Fields: Manage Federated Search Sources.)

Manage Z39.50 Sets

Lets you manage Z39.50 sets for any Z39.50 federated search sources that you create or maintain. Z39.50 sets allow you to define a set of qualifiers that operate during Z39.50 searching. Qualifiers define the values for the attributes defined by the bib-1 attribute set, namely, completeness, position, relation, structure, truncation, and use. Once you define a Z39.50 set, you can assign the set to one or more Z39.50 search targets. (For more information, see Fields: Manage Z39.50 Sets .)
