Once you have configured a search target, you can test whether the connection to the search target is working. Testing a connection to a search target allows you to perform a search against the specified target and then see a sample of the search results that would be returned from this search target. By default, SirsiDynix Enterprise returns a list of 5 search results using a simplified search results display. When testing 360, Muse (Single Search), and Best of Web connections, the search results include title and author information, and a hyperlink to the resource. When testing other types of connections, the search results include title and author information.
This test only verifies that the connection to a federated search target is working properly. You must also verify that any profiles that are configured to use this federated search target are also configured properly, or a search using this target may fail.
To test the connection for a federated search target
| 1 | Login to the Admin console. |
| 2 | Choose Manage Federated Search Sources. |
| 3 | Choose the Manage Search Targets option next to the search source whose connection you want to test. |
| 4 | Choose the Test Target Connection option next to the search target whose connection you want to test. |
| 5 | Enter a search term in the Search field, then click Search. |
If the connection to the search target is successful, SirsiDynix Enterprise displays a preview of the returned search results. If the connection is unsuccessful, SirsiDynix Enterprise displays an error message indicating that the connection to the search target failed.
