Displaying the format type icon

You can configure whether or not format type icons appear in search results and in item detail displays. Format type icons are icons that signify the type of the item (book, DVD, etc.) listed in the search results. They display as part of the item description and make it easier for patrons to quickly identify the type of the item listed in their search results. The icons that display are determined by the item type defined in the item information. (For more information, see How format type icons are displayed.)

If you choose to display format type icons, you must have a value specified for the Format search field, and your search result display must include the Format search field. (For more information on configuring search fields or setting up search result displays, see Adding or editing a search field or Configuring the search fields for a search result display .)

For format types for which there is no defined icon, no icon displays in the summary information in Searching.

To display format type icons in search result displays

From the Admin console, choose Manage Displays.

Choose Manage Search Result Displays.

For the search result display you want to work with, choose Edit > Next.

Move the Format search field from Available to Selected. (For more information, see Fields: Choose Search Display Fields .)

Save your changes.

Refresh the search cache (for details, see Refreshing the search cache).

To display format type icons in detail displays

From the Admin console, choose Manage Displays.

Choose Manage Detail Displays.

For the detail display you want to work with, choose Edit > Next.

Move the Format parent field from Available to Selected. (For more information, see Fields: Choose Search Display Fields .)

Save your changes.

Refresh the search cache (for details, see Refreshing the search cache).
