THE LIBRARY AND LENDING COLLECTION

 

General Collection

• Keep books of various fields for public use.
• Books in this collection can be borrowed according to the users’ category and the conditions set by the library.
• 70% of this general collection comprises museums materials which is in line with the features of this library as a special library.

 

The Museums Department Collection

• Seminar collection is limited, and for reference only.
• This collection keep foreign publication materials, the United Nations publication, and the United Nations and its governing bodies co-published materials, the OECD publications (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), a series of confidential reports of Brunei Darussalam’s development reports or departments’ projects that were planned or reported.
• The collection materials are divided into administrative reports, statistical publications such as population censuses, commission and committees reports, research reports, government policies, action plans, bulletins or legal documents.

 

Collection of Journals

• This collection keeps the latest and most recent journals in various fields/matters. There are more than 120,000 copies of the journal or nearly 253 titles in this collection, including about 70 current titles which are still being subscribed. The journal collection consists of several mini collections, as follows:

 

Popular Journals

• Keeps the latest and most recent journals referred by the users. Users are only allowed to refer the popular journal from this collection.

 

Latest Journals

• These are unvolumed journals published in current year.

 

Late Journals

• These are the recent volumed journals.

 

Compact Journals

• These are the recent journals published in other languages beside Malay and English. These journals are oversized, and seldom referred by users.

 

Save Journals

• These are the complimentary journals, the journals that were published in the last five (5) years, and the journals which are no longer subscribed by the Library of the Department of Museums. Users need to contact or go direct to the Journal Service Counter to access the journals

 

Daily Newspapers

• Collection of Journals also provides daily newspapers namely  the Borneo Bulletin, Media Permata, and Pelita Brunei.

 

Media Collection

• This collection keep media materials consisting of micro-materials and audio-visual materials in various fields. These include the CD-based materials, and this is a closed collection.

 

Rare collection

Included in the general rare category is one or all of the followings:-

• Materials that were published before 1950 and/or rarely found or out of print and no longer available in the market.
• Old-published materials that are priceless in terms of its contents and no longer available in the market, and if any, it would be sold at an expensive price.

 

The Museum Director’s Collection

• This is a limited collection and for reference only.
• This collection are the materials submitted by the former Directors of Museums Department, and are kept in the library collection for references. Most of the materials are departmental projects that have been planned or reported as well as souvenirs given to the Director of the Brunei Museums Department.

 

Limited Collection

Limited Collection are books containing illustrations or content that are inappropriate to be placed in open collections.

• These materials are in the Special Collection room.

 

Theses Collection/Project report

• Collection of theses/project reports are placed in a limited collection   room.
• Only 1 thesis/project report can be borrowed and referred in the Special room within 2 hours.
• These materials should not be taken out of the library or from the Special Collection room.
• It is not permissible to record these materials even when using a mobile phone camera.
• These materials are not allowed to be photocopied except on the authorization of the author or any parties concerned.

 

Reference Collection

• The materials from the reference collection can not be taken out of the library except at the discretion of the Librarian and Officers of the Users Service Section.
• Eligible  borrower (as in the table above)  should follow the borrowing procedures through a recorded library system.
• The borrower shall be held responsible for the material borrowed. If there is any loss of material borrowed, the library reserves the right to claim indemnity of the material either to replace it or to pay twice the price of the material together with the service charge (Refer to the Serial Published Material Policy)

 

Seminar Collection

• Seminar Collection is a limited collection and for reference only.
• It comprises all forms of publications or compilations of conference papers, workshops, training and reports attended by the personnel of the Brunei Museums Department either in Brunei or abroad which are submitted to the library to be kept and regulated.

 

Winston Churchill Collection

• Winston Churchill collection is a limited collection and for reference only.
• It comprises all publications produced by Sir Winston Churchill or any published materials concerning about him for safekeeping.
