LIBRARY REGULATIONS

 

General Rules of Library Membership

  • For personnel of the Brunei Museums Department only.
  • Users are required to fill in the Library Membership Application Form when registering and submitting it to the library for the purpose of membership record support.
  • For non-library members such as Officers, Management and Professional Officers should obtain their respective department’s support letters to enable them to use the Brunei Museums’ library. This letter must be presented at the Library’s Main Counter before using the library.

General Rules of the Borrowing Services

  • Only registered members are allowed to borrow. Members of the library must present their member card when borrowing any library materials.
  • Borrowing a monograph from the open (public) shelf can be made at the main counter. For special collections, the items shall not be brought out of the library unless a written permission was obtained in advanced.
  • e-library registered-members are eligible to borrow any items at the self-service machines that are available in the Brunei Museums Department’s library.

 

General Rules of the Returning Services

  • The loaned materials must be returned on or before the due date specified.
  • The library staff reserves the rights to recall any materials on loan, if required by other users.
  • Users are responsible to ensure that materials on loan are duly returned to the library, and it is verified before leaving the Returning Counter.

 

Rules of Using the Internet

  • The guidelines and policy on using the internet are set for the members’ rights to access information via internet.
  • Users must comply with all the applicable policy, rules and procedures stipulated by the Brunei Museums’Library.
  • This service can only be opened to members of the Brunei Museum Museum Department Department only.
  • Registered or unregistered users are required to register their names at the main desk of the Brunei Museums’ Library before accessing the internet.
  • Usage is limited to a period of 45 minutes at a time.
  • Internet services are provided as part of the Library Reference Services, and the use is limited for searching information – only for research purposes.
  • Users are not ALLOWED to use the internet services for e-mailing, blunt and abusive CHATTING, defamotory messages or accessing unnecessary websites, e.g. e-speech, pornography, etc.
  • The misuse of the library for political or personal purposes is not permitted.

  • Changing any computer terminals or adding any computer terminals to the terminals provided by the Brunei Museums’ Library is not allowed. Terminals/Station are provided for accessing INTERNET, CD-ROM,  and OPAC (Sirsi Dynix) ONLY.
  • Changing the main frame on the computer screen provided by the Library of the Brunei Museum Department is not permitted.
  • Installing any malicious software that may interfere with normal internet engines is NOT PERMITTED.
  • Any users who abuse this service is required to leave the library immediately, and disciplinary action may be taken against them.

 

General Rules on Booking the Library Materials

  • Users can only book materials that are borrowed by other users, and the materials are in circulated-status in the library system.
  • The library will keep the booked materials at the main counter for 7 days after the materials were returned.
  • Booking will be given if the requested materials are not loaned.
  • Booking can also be made online.

 

General Rules of Services on the Use/Booking of the Library Facilities

Open Reading Room

  • Not to make noise or discuss in this room.
  • To behave and maintain silence reading at all time in order not to disturb other users.
  • To place the materials on the trolley after every use.
  • To keep the room tidy after use.
  • To behave and not to make discussion loudly that may disturb other users.
  • Not to sleep, eat or drink in the room.
  • Not to bring in any furniture into the reading room.

 

GENERAL RULES

Library Terms

  • Any possessions of users shall be made available for inspection by librarians at the security gate once the alarm sounds.
  • The use of the library is limited only for registered users or visitors who have obtained special approvals. This condition also applies for the services and facilities provided.
  • Users should wear their library ID/visitor cards while in the library. Failure to do so, users may be forbidden to use any services and facilities provided in the library premises.
  • Users are to comply with the Code of Ethics on the use of the Museums Department’s Library, and to wear appropriate and decent clothing while at the library.
  • To show the librarians on duty the loaned books and any books brought into the library.
  • Users are not to make noises. The cellphones shall be maintained in vibrate or silent modes at all times at the library.
  • Users are forbidden to smoke, eat, drink, sleep or any acts that may affect the environment of the library premises.
  • The library shall not be held liable for any damages or loss of users personal belongings .
  • Users are forbidden to bring in any pets into the library.
  • Users are not allowed to book any seats in the library. Any books and other items left on chairs and tables for a long time shall be collected by the librarians.
  • Mutilation including defaming, cutting, destructing or destroying of library materials is offensive.
  • Users who borrow any materials are responsible for its safekeeping. Using others’ library cards for borrowing is offensive.
  • Any processes of printing, photocopying and the use of computers should have prior approval from the librarians on duty.
  • All papers and trashes should be thrown into the dustbins provided.
  • The librarians shall be authorised to exclude any users from the library if they infringe the rules or distrupt the privacy of the library.
  • The library shall be authorised to forbid individuals to use the library facilities and services if they infringe the library rules and regulations.
  • The library reserves the rights to amend or add any regulations from time to time without prior notice.

Note: Chief Librarian, Deputy Chief Librarian and Librarians at the Users Service Section may use their discretion to amend and modify the rules of use and reservation of the library facilities from time to time to meet the needs of the organization and its users.
